"The exhibition project created for the Milev synagogue is a natural continuation of Markéta's work in which she decided to focus on the natural processes of dawn and dusk set in an autumn to winter landscape. With her delicately poetic installation, she sparingly inhabits the corners of sacred spaces, evoking the atmosphere and feelings associated with morning wanderings through the dawning landscape, while the silent dusk and the fading of day are mirrored on the horizon.

Markéta Samcová (*1989) is a visual artist living near Milevsko in South Bohemia. She graduated from Jiří Kovanda's Performance Studio at the Faculty of Art and Design of Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, during which she profiled herself as an artist working with spatial creation. Her artistic projects are based on a long-standing interest in creating site-specific and procedural installations that target the imagination and the experience of perceiving the world around us. Nature and its cyclical transformations have become a great inspiration for the artist. She likes to create imaginatively tuned landscapes, scenes or situations that open up to the viewer's personal imagination. Her works are characterized by minimalist aesthetics, attention to detail and gracefulness. She has recently presented her work in solo exhibitions Behind the Horizon of Landscape at the Jelení Gallery in Prague and On the Level of Fog at the Basement Project in Olomouc.

About the exhibition:
When we set out on journeys, we put on shoes. Sometimes we take a staff to lean on or to clear our path. We fortify ourselves with food; we are prepared. But after some time, we grow weary and ask ourselves: what is the purpose of this journey we were invited on, why are we toiling here, why us specifically, why must we suffer...? These are thousand-year-old questions that we pose to God repeatedly with defiance and distrust. We reproach Him for being silent, for not guiding us sufficiently, for not existing. Martina Špinková will open these audacious questions in her own way in the space of the Milevsko synagogue - through paintings, drawings, and installations.

Join us for the screening of slides from the Milevský Hussite congregation's archive. The slides will give us insight into the events within the congregation, as well as in our Milevsko. The slides cover the years 1950 - 1970. We will also commemorate the opening of the congregation in the synagogue in 1950 :)
